Fife has its own referee’s association and there are lots of excellent stories to tell with referees from our own area cover some big matches.

Scott Lambie who lives in Kirkcaldy is the Referee on the Scotland v Northern Ireland match as part of the Victory Shield Tournament. This is an U16s Tournament that is taking place in the Oriam Centre, Scotland’s new multi million pound sports performance centre at Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh Link here. Along with Scott will be Fife Referees Gary Farmer and Barry Reid. The participating Associations are Scotland, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland and Wales. The competition is played at U16 level.

David McGeachie will be featuring in a Champions League Match next week, and the following week he will be Assistant Referee in a World Cup qualifying match.  davidmcgeachie2014David’s most recent World Cup Qualifying Match was a surprise appointment. After having featured in the Netherlands v Belarus World Cup Qualifying Match on the Friday night, he got a call on the following Sunday from the SFA (Scottish Football Association) asking if he was available on the Monday to take part as an official on the game; Sweden v Bulgaria. Here’s the information from the SFA website:

“David McGeachie was appointed at short notice yesterday to tonight’s World Cup Qualifier, Sweden v. Bulgaria, following a request received from The Football Association.  Due to circumstances, the Football Association was unable to appoint a FIFA Assistant to replace Stuart Burt who had taken ill overnight. Michael Oliver is the referee for the match. Gary Beswick will be the other assistant referee and Craig Pawson is the Fourth Official”

Lorraine Clark who lives in Thornton has recently returned from a Vauxhall Women’s A International Challenge Match between Scotland and the Netherlands. Lorraine was the fourth official in a group of Match Officials from England, Rebecca Welsh, Sian Massey-Ellis and Lisa Rachid.  Lorraine is due to go on a European trip and as soon as I know details of this, I’ll get them to you.

Our next Referee course is due to begin on Monday 9 January 2017. Anyone interested can contact our Course Tutor on tutor@fifereferees.co.uk and can find further information on our website at www.fifereferees.co.uk.
